Makeup came into my life as a refuge and an escape. I was going through a lot that year and I just needed a release. I wanted something different from everything else in my life and makeup was it for me. The fact they I could change my look at any given time was everything for me.

I always been a makeup lover but I was always scared on trying it on my face during my first year in masters program in Architecture. I finally decided to try it out and to my surprise. I fell in love with everything I was doing. Being a creative person and also into architecture, I always want our works to be different. I brought in that same spirit into makeup. The art of beauty for me had to be something different. If you notice well, the Nigerian makeup industry was very saturated with basic everyday/ clean makeup so I decided to experiment with something other than that. I began to look for a twist to the art of makeup by adding extra kind of attention-grabbing elements to it. The goal for me is to look different with every look. It was then that the special effect became the twist I was looking for. It occurred to me that most times when I draw up a makeup concept, I move away from the norm. The desire for something different and extra ordinary is what I expect as soon as I pick my brush. I usually have the look in my head already so what comes to my mind is putting in my best in execution.

All this while, my family and friends have been my support system, even though it took some of them awhile to get used to the fact that I can tow the path of makeup and make something productive from it. Because it’s something I genuinely derive joy from, it more of a passion. I just do it for fun despite the discouragement and that’s what keeps me going.

In building my brand, one of those things I have come to realize is that I don’t believe anyone is made for anything. I believe you can do anything you set your mind on. I actively choose to do creative makeup every day. Sometimes, I get the pressure on social media to do basic makeup; such advice rather reminds me and pushes me to do me. Anything makeup wise, there is always a market for it. Beauty creatives are always ready to jump on trends. I follow a lot of creative makeup artists and I’m get motivated to what I see mostly also I practice a lot.

Everything was moving smoothly until towards the end of year when I lost my instagram account. I had to open a new account. It was a crazy period and I had to open a new page thankfully I got it back after 3 months. Such challenge had the capability of weighing one down but I don’t let such weigh me down anymore.

In this industry, it takes a strong mind to keep going, honestly. I really can’t say I’m always motivated but what I do is I try my best to take a breath and then look at the brighter side of things for instance, when I got my first pr package from a makeup brand based in Australia.

In the coming years, I look forward to creating a community for beauty creatives to express themselves, not conform. Anything makeup wise, there is always a market for it. Beauty creatives are always ready to jump on trends. I follow a lot of creative makeup artists and I’m get motivated to what I see mostly also I practice a lot.
