“Go and read your books and stop drawing…” That should be the title of a book about myself if I should write one. That was the constant phrase I heard when I was growing up. My dad didn’t see art as a time-worthy profession. I am sure that even till now, he still thinks in that direction even though the entire family have come to accept it as what I am and might spend the rest of my life doing.
I was born with arts running in my blood. I just knew how to draw right from time. I can’t remember learning or trying to so hard to learn how to draw even though I went further to study Fine and Applied Arts in University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
I grew up as a lonely boy that always had his own world in his mind. I have always been creating my own world since it seemed that no one understood me. I was surrounded by people who didn’t have interest in what I was doing or in my creative abilities.
In time, I carved out a niche for myself in hyper realistic and abstract realism but I work with acrylic and oil paints. It is the most explorative of all arts field and the most colourful too.
It also instinctively suits the creation of my own world and what I see or would want to see. I gravitated towards it early – not like I had much of a choice. Along the way, I met obstacles which every human being experience and they are many – free jobs, difficult clients, parents issues, lack of appreciation.
Somehow, in never considered it as an ultimate end but focus and momentum keeps that drive. Then one day, I got a direct message from Tinnie Tempah (I am a huge of his). That was a huge breakthrough for me. It remains unforgettable and a sort of motivation that keeps me going and pushing harder.
As an artist, it’s quite difficult to tell where your inspiration comes from. For me, it comes from God, my dreams, heartbreaks and happiness. That’s why my style, bright colours and high level of details in my portrait paintings stand me out.
